Parking on a hill scares many new drivers. What if the car rolls? Ontario has one simple rule that keeps your car safe — and at SR Safe Driving School, we teach it in one line:
Everything turns RIGHT — except ONE: uphill WITH a curb turns LEFT.
Here are the four cases:
✅ Downhill (with or without a curb): turn your wheels fully RIGHT, toward the curb or the edge of the road.
✅ Uphill WITHOUT a curb: turn your wheels fully RIGHT, toward the edge of the road.
✅ Uphill WITH a curb: turn your wheels fully LEFT, away from the curb — if the car rolls back, the curb catches the front wheels and stops the car.
And every time, in this order: steer FIRST, then set the parking brake, and secure the car.
Examiners give hill parking on the G2 road test, so practise it until it feels easy. Park on a quiet hill, turn the wheels the safe way, and check before you walk away.
Learn Safe. Drive Smart.
